Background

The MySpaza Programme is a project housed under My Spaza Distributions and Consulting Pty (Ltd), a black-owned company founded by entrepreneur and former Spaza owner, Mr Medupe Rantlha in 2013. The concept for the programme was born after Mr Rantlha decided to seek solutions to the shortcomings of the spaza business model after facing hardships as a shop owner.

The MySpaza Programme responds to these shortcomings by giving young social entrepreneurs with retail industry experience and business acumen an opportunity to run their own spaza shop in their township under the mentorship and curatorship of a management and operational of the MySpaza  team.

All of the tuckshops under the MySpaza umbrella utilise the uniform MySpaza branding and benefit from bulk stock distribution and delivery. The aim of this unique small business approach is to revitalize township economy by ensuring that local informal traders and social entrepreneurs who have been the flagship in many South African townships in history return to their former glory and maintain a competitive advantage over supermarket chains, the challenges that come with renting shop space and difficulties of management and general operations and the unhealthy pressures associated with operating with foreign nationals in the same business space.
